Electric Wheelchairs, also called Powerchairs, are designed for when a scooter is unsuitable or if the user finds it difficult to use a self-propelled wheelchair. There are many different types available and prices can range from under £500 to over £5,000.

Our staff will help to guide you to an electric wheelchair that’s comfortable, easy to use and suited to the tasks you want to use it for. We have over 50 electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters in our Showroom, based in Lewes, in Sussex, for you to try before you buy.

Type of Electric Wheelchair?

For ease of navigation, we have divided our electric wheelchairs into easy to navigate categories:

  • Folding Transportable electric wheelchairs are lightweight and compact machines that fold down into the size of a suitcase. This makes them very easy to transport and ideal as travel or holiday chairs, as well as for everyday use.
  • Indoor electric wheelchairs are designed for use around the home. They are more compact than the larger outdoor chairs. They have limited ground clearance which keep them stable and safe, and as such are only suitable for short outdoor trips on level ground should you wish to use them outside.
  • Indoor/Outdoor electric wheelchairs are sturdy, slightly larger chairs. They’re fitted with larger more powerful motors and batteries, often have larger and comfier seats and greater ground clearance. They are good for short to medium distances or journeys on-pavements as well as around the home or shops. Some of the smaller chairs disassemble for transport, and the largest of these models are equipped for road use and feature lighting and indicators.
  • Outdoor models are generally the largest and most comfortable electric wheelchairs, and often equipped with plush captain’s seats, lights and indicators for on-road use. They usually have excellent range, advanced suspension and pneumatic tyres, and can often be built to your exact specification.

Many of the Indoor/Outdoor and Outdoor electric wheelchairs can be built from the ground up as bespoke items. We offer a free professional assessment and prescription service for these chairs to ensure that you get the right chair for you.

The list of options for these chairs is exhaustive; multiple seating and cushion options, powered seat lifters, powered recliners, powered footrests, attendant controls, bluetooth connectivity, stump supports, bariatric seating and much more. Contact us on 03442 161616 for more details

What type of Electric Wheelchair is right for me?

Are you looking to purchase a lightweight electric wheelchair you can store or use with your car, or for occasional use? Then a Folding Transportable chair may be the right choice for you.

An Indoor chair may be a better choice if you’re looking for something to use around your home on a day to day basis, but still be comfortable and stable.

An Indoor/Outdoor chair would be the right purchase for you if you’re looking to travel small to medium distances from home at a good pace and in comfort, but still have a compact chair that’s easy to use around the home and shops.

Outdoor chairs are perfect for users that rely on a chair every day and regularly find themselves travelling a considerable distance. They are also suitable for larger users that may find an Indoor or Indoor/Outdoor chair too narrow or small for them.

What to consider when buying an Electric Wheelchair?

If you struggle with core strength or coordination you may want to consider buying a chair with a supportive seat with lateral support. If you’re looking for ease of access a chair with a swivel seat and adjustable armrests may be best for you. Looking to travel on road or at night? Then an electric wheelchair with lights and reflectors is your safest option.

The variation in options is endless, which is why you need to think about what’s important to you and ideally take advantage of our professional, impartial advice.

What else do I need to know?

It’s critical with an electric wheelchair that it fits you correctly, as users often spend a large amount of time in them. When we deliver a chair to you we will make sure it’s correctly adjusted to your size and shape within the limits of the chair.

Users of electric wheelchairs may also need accessibility upgrades to their property to use them safely and in comfort. We can undertake a FREE survey of your property before you purchase an electric wheelchair to ensure you’ll be able to use it hassle-free, and can offer suitable Ramp Solutions if you require them.
