How the Scheme works

The Motability Scheme lets customers exchange part or all of their mobility allowance to lease a powered wheelchair or mobility scooter (PWS).

Who can join?

To be eligible to join the Scheme, the customer must receive one of the following award types:

  • Enhanced rate mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC of PIP).
  • Higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance (HRMC of DLA).
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS).
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP).
  • Higher rate mobility component of Scotland’s Child Disability Payment (CDP).
  • Enhanced raate mobility component of Scotland’s Adult Disability Payment (ADP).
  • Scotland’s Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance (SADLA).

How long is the lease?

For PWS customers, the lease lasts three years.

What’s included in the lease?

Our all-inclusive package includes:

  • A new powered wheelchair or scooter every three years.
  • Home delivery and collection.
  • Insurance cover from Direct Line Mobility (DLM).
  • Breakdown assistance from Motability Assist.
  • Servicing, maintenance and repairs.
  • Replacement tyres.
  • Batteries.

What’s not included?

The customer is responsible for the following:

  • Additional extras.
  • Any fines.
  • Any damage caused to the product by neglect or misuse.

  • Product manufacturers

  • Scheme partners
